Do you prefer briefs over boxers? If you do, you may be in danger of becoming infertile. You may have never given it a thought in the past, but the tightness or looseness of your underwear can actually affect your fertility.
According to a recently published study, men who wear loose underwear like boxers tend to have better sperm concentration and count. Read on to find out how wearing boxers can enhance your fertility and what you can do to maintain a high sperm count and quality.
Human sperm is very sensitive. When exposed to high temperatures, sperm motility and quality decline significantly. That’s why your testicles, which are responsible for producing your sperm, are encased in a special pouch.
Your scrotum provides the ideal environment for sperm production. By keeping the temperature of your testicles a degree or two lower than your normal body temperature, your scrotum helps ensure efficient sperm production.
The ideal temperature for spermatogenesis is around 34 to 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit. When your scrotal temperature is higher than that, it can lead to decreased sperm production.
Unfortunately, when you’re wearing tight underwear, it can raise the temperature of your scrotum. Scrotal hyperthermia, a condition wherein the scrotal temperature is elevated, is considered one of the most common causes of abnormal sperm production.
Several studies have shown that prolonged car driving, using heated car seats, and even placing your laptop on your lap while working can increase your scrotal temperature and lead to decreased sperm production. Wearing tight clothing can also cause scrotal hyperthermia.
Boxers Versus Briefs
The tightness or looseness of your underwear can affect the temperature in your scrotum. This, in turn, can impact the quality and quantity of your sperm.
In the study mentioned above, researchers analyzed the relationship between the type of underwear, semen parameters, and reproductive hormone levels. The study involved 345 men who primarily wore boxers and 311 men who primarily wore briefs, jockeys, bikinis, and other types of underwear.
According to their analysis, the men who reported that they frequently wore boxers had higher sperm concentration compared to those who primarily wore other types of underwear.
Their total sperm count and total motile count were also higher compared to the men who did not use boxers frequently. Serum follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) concentrations were also lower for the men who frequently wore boxers.
Lifestyle Changes For Improved Sperm Count
Scientists have shown that there is an ongoing decrease in the sperm count and quality of men in western countries. This decline in sperm parameters is considered to be a result of various factors like environmental and lifestyle factors.
For instance, drinking and smoking are known to contribute to low sperm count. Frequently going to saunas or using electric blankets are also considered contributing factors. Aside from avoiding frequent use of tight underwear and clothing, there are other lifestyle changes that men can follow in order to prevent their sperm count from dropping.
Dietary Changes For Boosting Your Fertility
Certain types of diet like those high in meat and trans fat can increase your chances of becoming infertile. To prevent infertility, you can ensure that you eat the right kind of healthful foods that will boost your fertility.
Try incorporating fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamins C and E into your diet. These vitamins are great antioxidants that can help protect your sperm from getting damaged because of oxidative stress in your testicles.
Vitamin C-rich fruits include citrus fruits, kiwi, strawberries, and apples. Tropical fruits such as mangoes, pineapples, and papaya are also great natural sources of vitamin C. With regard to vegetable sources of vitamin C, you can’t go wrong with cruciferous vegetables like cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and broccoli as they’re also rich in vitamin C.
For vitamin E, you can get it from veggies like turnip greens, curly kale, spinach, and chard. Sunflower seeds, almonds, and hazelnuts also contain lots of vitamin E. Avocados, mangoes, and kiwi fruit are some of the best fruit sources of vitamin E.
Instead of eating a lot of meat and fatty foods, you should try eating more fish and seafood which are great sources of various healthy nutrients. For instance, omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids that you can get only from dietary sources like tuna and mackerel.
Omega-3 fatty acids are necessary for the normal development of your sperm. But if you don’t eat a lot of foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids, your sperm may develop abnormally and your sperm morphology will be poor.
You can also switch to vegetable sources of protein instead of just relying on red meat alone for your protein needs. Spinach, Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and asparagus are great vegetable sources of protein, not to mention the fact that they also contain folate which you need for high sperm count and density.
Supplements For Enhancing Your Fertility
Another way to boost your sperm count is by taking male sex enhancement supplements that contain sperm count-boosting ingredients just like Malegenix. One of the most popular sex supplements, Malegenix not only helps boost your libido and testosterone levels, it can also enhance your erectile function and increase your fertility.
That’s because Malegenix is formulated with the best virility and fertility ingredients like maca, Tribulus terrestris, horny goat weed, L-arginine, and tongkat ali. That’s an amazing combination of natural ingredients that are known to promote sexual desire, bedroom stamina, and sexual vigor.
The fertility-enhancing properties of Tribulus terrestris and maca are well-documented. For instance, Tribulus terrestris is known to help improve sperm motility, which is an important semen parameter for male fertility. When your sperm cells are not motile, they won’t be able to swim forward to impregnate your partner’s egg cell.
Maca is not just a potent aphrodisiac, it’s also great for increasing your seminal volume as well as your sperm count per ejaculation. Maca is also known to help improve sperm motility. Traditionally considered as a potent treatment for male infertility, maca is also beneficial for men suffering from erectile dysfunction.
